Burned Out (poem)

Without a single word
leave a silent goodbye
to all that had been hoped for
in the past left behind
You can never go back
Nothing will be the same
All you knew was washed away
in the tears that fell like rain
Memories will live forever
of a relationship destined to end
as the flame burns out
in Fate’s gentle wind
Too hard to hold on
Even harder to let go
But eventually we’ll be
“just someone I used to know”
Without a scream or a whimper
Without a fight or a tear
a door is closed forever
Letting go no longer holds fear
With the past left behind
Moving forward from what was
Finding a new future without you
What burned bright is done
