The Wrong Fork In The Road (poem)

Ever wonder what the hell you were thinking
What led you down that road
What made you take the fork one way
When that wasn’t the way to go
You knew you weren’t getting lost
But you knew you should have stayed away
A bad decision without a moments thought
Haunted you the rest of your days
Try as you might to move on and forget
That road creeps up from behind
Without a warning you are taken back
To the wrong-way-fork in you mind
You can’t outrun the memories
As they randomly steal light from your path
As you look back and wonder what you were thinking
In that split second of your past
How would right now be different
How much would that ancient moment change today
If you hadn’t taken the wrong fork in the road
If you had only played it safe
