30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 20 – Music Player On Shuffle, Write The 1st 3 Songs, and What Your Initial Thought Is

Music is a very powerful medium.  Everybody has pieces of music that can take them through the gamut of emotions.  There are songs we turn to when we are in love, when we want to dance, when our heart hurts, when we want to praise and worship, when we just want to sit back and relax.  Whether you enjoy classic, metal, disco, pop, contemporary christian, jazz, country, or electronic dance music, there are notes, rythyms, melodies, and words that speak to each of us.  Music is the universal language.  And with music apps, YouTube, and radio, music is with us anywhere and everywhere we go.  The perfect song is never far away.  Music is the quintessential medium of instant gratification.  For today’s writing topic we shall explore what is in my music player.

Day 20 – Open your music player and write the first 3 songs that come up and what your initial thought is.

1.  For King and Country – Fix My Eyes
I love this song!  I adore For King and Country.  They always have a way of taking the Lord’s word and putting its message to music in such a way that really hit home and gives you a few minutes of heartfelt praise and worship.  My absolute favorite song from them is “For King and Country – The Proof Of Your Love.”

2.  Carrie Underwood – Something In The Water
A woman known as a country music princess who sings openly of her faith in a genre dominated by guys who sing about scantily dressed women riding in pickup trucks, going muddin’, or drinking beer . . . she is proud of her faith and shares it with the talent that Almighty God gave her.  I love this song because it incorporates my favorite hymn, Amazing Grace.  This is not the first time she has had a hit song written from her faith.  Remember “Carrie Underwood – Jesus, Take The Wheel“?  God knew his plans for her the moment her career began with American Idol.  Yet another reason to never doubt He has a plan for all of us.  He will use us to glorify Him in everything we do, and Carrie Underwood does.

3.  Jeremy Riddle – Sweetly Broken
“At the cross You beckon me.  You draw me gently to my knees, and I am lost for words, so lost in love.  I’m sweetly broken, wholly surrendered.”  (Lyrics courtesy of www.klove.com)
It’s a simple love song written to our savior, Jesus Christ.  “I am lost for words, so lost in love . . . ”  We’ve all felt that kind of love for someone that we love with all our heart, and you can find songs all through history that sing of that level of love, that kind of love that focuses all you are on the other person, that level of love where you are completely devoted to the other person, that level of love where you would give your own life to protect the other person.  What a beautiful, mighty, and unconquerable love.  That is the kind of love God has for us.  He gave His son, Jesus Christ, for us on the cross so that we can have eternal live in Heaven.  When was the last time you loved a person that much, the way God loves us?  Jeremy Riddle wrote this song, I believe, to express how much he loves Jesus, a love that leaves him in complete awe and devoted, lovely worship.  This is a simple love song to the One who saved us through his crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.  It is elegant and powerful just through the emotion behind the lyrics.

Until next time . . .
